What seems to be your biggest mistakes, actually become the most important life lessons.....
When I created Endless Possibilities, I simply wanted to make unique handmade jewelry that enabled women to express their unique personalities. It was important to me for women to have an alternative to the cookie cutter boutique style jewelry. As that business progressed, I noticed that in an attempt to get sales and hopefully make money, I started conforming to what was popular instead of trusting my gut and being confident in my designs.
Then one day…..
I decided I’m not a conformist. I’ve always been different. The direction I was heading in with my business was causing me to be unhappy. If I’m going to spend my time creating, it has to be creating something I whole-heartedly believe in.
I was concerned that…..
my handmade business was going to turn out just like thousands of other handmade jewelry businesses. Everyone competing for the same type customer just to make a dollar. I didn’t work endless hours to just blend in – I want to stand out.
I decided it was time to make a change. Throughout my entire life, when faced with challenges, I have always turned to inspirational quotes. My Pinterest account is inundated with quote, after quote, after quote. When my college aged son went through a bout with depression, I was constantly texting him inspirational quotes and motivational memes.
I set out to create…..
an entirely new business. Make a clean start. Focus on creating something that I enjoy and something that can inspire. In today’s world, I feel it is so much easier to be unhappy than to be happy. The gloom and doom on the local and national news. Everyone arguing with everyone on social media. I want to create happiness. I want to enable happiness. I want people to be able to inspire strangers.
It turns out…..
it took over a year to create and to convince myself that the change was needed. I kept creating jewelry through Endless Possibilities that I didn’t believe in, hoping that I would grow to love it once the sales came rolling in. At times, I would move forward with my new ideas and then quit. Two steps forward and ten steps back.
Through it all…..
I was looking for a sign. A sign that women need inspirational quotes in their life. A sign that meaningful jewelry can make a difference. A sign that subtle reminders can and will help someone get through a difficult day. A sign that an inspirational t shirt can unite strangers in the grocery store. I had been working on the concept of Soaring Spirit Designs for a year when the pandemic hit.
I’m a work in progress, as I believe we all are. My initial “glass half empty” reaction was, “That’s it. I’m done. This is my sign that I need to move on with my life and make better choices”. As the pandemic wore on, I noticed more and more how people began looking for inspiration and encouragement wherever they could find it. THAT is when I saw my true sign.
It is my hope…..
that what I’m creating through Soaring Spirit Designs makes a positive difference in someone’s life. I have realized that the smallest thing can make a huge impact. Just think about what a smile can do.
I have been through divorce (twice), a custody battle and watched my son, as a teenager, reach rock bottom when a lifetime of work didn’t create the future he had planned. We had each other and family through it all. Things have worked out for the better for both of us. We know it could have ended differently. We both know there are those who are not so fortunate and choose a different ending. Depression is a terrible thing.
For this reason, I have decided to donate a portion of the profit from every sale to suicide prevention. Mental health is extremely important and often overlooked. I want to make a difference.
